Dhanvantari is the physician of the gods and the god of Ayurveda - an ancient Hindu system of medicine. When Devas and Asuras churn Ksheer Sagar (ocean of milk), Dhanvantari emerges out of the ocean holding a pot of Amrit - the elixir of life. He is depicted as a four-armed god holding Amrit pot, Vedas, Medicine, and leech (used for blood purification therapy). He is worshipped for sound health.
