Royal Heritage: Siddhartha Gautam, born as a prince in the kingdom of Kapilvastu (modern-day Nepal), was the son of King Suddhodana. His early life was filled with luxury and comfort, shielded from the harsh realities of the world outside by his father.
-
Prediction of His Future: When Siddhartha was a child, seers predicted that he would either become a great king or a spiritual leader. His father, hoping for the former, kept Siddhartha in a life of opulence, preventing him from encountering any form of suffering.
-
First Encounters with Suffering: During a trip through the city, Siddhartha observed an old man, a sick person, and a dead body. These experiences shocked him, and he realized that suffering, aging, and death were inevitable aspects of human existence.
-
Renunciation of Royal Life: Deeply disturbed by these realizations, Siddhartha decided to renounce his royal status and life of luxury. He left his palace, family, and wealth behind, embarking on a spiritual journey in search of a solution to the suffering he had witnessed.
-
Attaining Enlightenment: After years of intense meditation and spiritual practice, Siddhartha achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India. He became known as the Buddha, the "Enlightened One," and shared his teachings to help others find freedom from suffering.
