Gyana Yoga or Jnana Yoga is the yoga of true knowledge. It is based on the Hindu philosophy of Advaita Vedanta or non-dualism. Buddhism, Zen, Taoism and Sufism also holds the similar philosophy of non-dualism. Vashishtha, Adi Shankara, Ramana Maharshi and Nisargadatta Maharaj are best known seers of Gyana Yoga. In Jnana yoga, the mind transcends its identification with thoughts and ego. The prime goal of Jnana yoga is to liberate the mind from the illusionary world, Maya, and the union of Atman (self) with Brahman (supreme reality). This union is achieved by following four paths which are depicted here in in the abstract concept – Viveka (intellect) – intellect to distinguish between real and unreal, temporary and permanent, Vairagya – non-attachment from material world and attachment with the divine, Shatsampat – six mental practices (represented by six-pointed star) to develop the ability to see beyond the illusion, and Mumukshutva – a desire and will to achieve liberation from Maya.
