Krishna, Balarama, and the other cowherd boys were grazing their calves when a demon named Vatsasura assumed the form of a calf and mixed with the group.
- Krishna, knowing that Vatsasura was sent by his maternal uncle Kansa (who had imprisoned Krishna’s parents, Vasudeva and Devaki), recognized the demon’s true identity.
- Krishna caught the demon by his legs, swung him in the air, and threw him to the ground, ultimately slaying Vatsasura.
- Krishna’s act demonstrated his divine power and protection over his friends and his victory over the evil sent by Kansa.
