Kaliya, a venomous multi-hooded serpent (Naga), lived in the Yamuna River, poisoning its waters and harming the villagers.
- One day, while playing with his cowherd friends, Krishna’s ball fell into the river, prompting him to jump in.
- Kaliya wrapped himself around Krishna, but Krishna expanded his body and broke free.
- Krishna then leapt onto Kaliya’s hoods and danced upon them, subduing the serpent and expelling its deadly venom.
- Defeated and humbled, Kaliya surrendered to Krishna and agreed to leave the Yamuna, restoring the river's purity and protecting the villagers.
