Krishna is the eighth incarnation of Vishnu (the Preserver) and incarnated in the Dvapar Yuga, one of the epochs in the Hindu four-age cycle.
- Krishna was born to Vasudeva and Devaki, who were imprisoned by Kansa, Devaki’s brother, who feared the prophecy that Krishna would kill him.
- On the night of Krishna’s birth, Vasudeva secretly took him from the prison to Gokul village, where he placed the newborn Krishna in the care of Nanda and Yashoda to protect him from Kansa.
- Vasudeva exchanged Krishna with Yashoda’s daughter, and Yashoda unknowingly raised Krishna, believing him to be her own son.
- Thus, Krishna grew up in Gokul under the loving care of Yashoda and Nanda, while his true divine nature remained hidden for many years.
