Om is a sacred sound – a sound of the cosmos. It refers to both Atman (soul) and Brahman – the supreme God, the ultimate reality from which everything evolved. Everything in this universe is pulsating. The vibrations emanating from planets are not audible to human ears as they are outside human hearing range. However, one who meditates at the higher levels of consciousness can hear the sound of the cosmos. Through repititive chanting of Om, a Yogi can resonate himself with the sound of the cosmos, establishing a connection between nature and the universe. By meditating upon Om, a Yogi unites with the source from which everything is evolved – Brahman.
